What is NG911 indoor mapping data?
Geospatial data describing a building's interior — floors, rooms, doors, stairwells, interior routes — structured so an NG911 system can display it on the dispatch map and generate dispatchable locations below the street-address level.
In what format does a PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) need indoor mapping data?
It depends on the dispatch system — most commonly GIS feature layers attributed to the NENA NG 911 GIS Data Model, or CAD/DXF files with a defined layer structure. DTI confirms the target spec with the 911 authority or dispatch vendor before capturing, rather than delivering a generic file set.
Can existing floor plans be used instead of scanning?
Sometimes, and usually not well. Architectural drawings show design intent, not current condition — buildings drift as walls move, rooms get renumbered, and additions get built. Scanning captures the building as it stands and produces a verified baseline; good current drawings can still reduce scan time and help validate results.
How long does the data stay current?
Digital Twin Imaging (DTI) works with building owners and public safety partners to maintain the accuracy of emergency response data. We periodically check in regarding planned renovations, interior modifications, room renumbering, and other facility changes that could affect responder navigation. During significant renovations, we coordinate with the building and first responders to verify that information remains accurate. In some cases, portions of a model may be temporarily removed from operational use until updated information is available. Once renovations are complete, affected areas are rescanned and updated so the NG911 model continues to provide accurate, responder-ready information.
Who owns the data?
The contracting agency. Ownership, retention, access control, and redistribution rights are all defined in writing before capturing.
Is a scanned building a security risk?
The data is sensitive and handled accordingly. Access is controlled through enterprise identity management — single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, and role-based permissions — so each agency and role sees only what it's authorized to see. Data is encrypted in transit, at rest, and never published or sold. DTI is currently undergoing a SOC 2 assessment and has engaged a compliance firm to prepare for FedRAMP Moderate authorization.
